About the treatment

What is Profhilo®?

Profhilo® is an injectable remodelling treatment that stimulates skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin, which naturally decline as you age.

It boosts and tightens sagging, ageing skin, rejuvenating tissue to improve skin laxity and glow. It can be used on your face, neck, chest and hands, as well as other areas of the body.

Profhilo® contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, is a great option for people who are concerned about their skin’s elasticity.

Profhilo® is injected just under your skin at various sites depending on which area is being treated. Profhilo® spreads like liquid honey and is absorbed well beyond each injection site, so 10 injections are needed to treat any given area other than the chest where more injections are needed.

Profhilo® treatment uses standard injection points to ensure each treatment is safe, and avoids potential injury to any underlying blood vessels.

Once injection sites have been marked, treatment takes 15–20 minutes.

Profhilo® is a two-step treatment over 4–6 weeks.

Some people may require a third treatment for optimal results.

Treatment can be repeated every 6–12 months to maintain results.

As with any injectable treatment, side effects may include redness, bruising, itching, swelling, pain and tenderness. You may also notice small welt like lumps in the areas that have been injected. These usually settle quickly, but for some people they may still be visible for a few days after treatment. If you have an important event coming up, we advise treatment at least 3–5 days prior, to allow any side effects to settle. It is recommended to avoid anything that can make your blood thinner, such as:

ginger, garlic, green tea, oily fish, high dose vitamin C and E, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (for e.g. Brufen, aspirin and Voltaren), for two weeks prior to treatment and 48 hours post-treatment.

After your first treatment you should start to notice improved skin hydration. In the weeks after your second treatment, you should notice a ‘lifting’ effect, with fewer lines and wrinkles, improved hydration and greater skin volume and texture.

Like any injectable treatment, treatment may be slightly uncomfortable. Some people request numbing cream, but most people tolerate the slow injections well.

Profhilo® is used to hydrate your skin through additive free, highly concentrated hyaluronic acid. It has a consistency like liquid honey and spreads evenly under the skin.

Dermal filler has more of a gel like consistency and is used to replace volume, whereas Profhilo’s® main purpose is to hydrate through stimulating natural collagen and elastin production.

Profhilo® is not advised if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • are allergic to hyaluronic acid
  • have an active infection on the area of treatment
  • have keloid scarring on the area of treatment
  • have had any major dental work within three weeks prior to treatment
  • are planning a long-haul flight within one week of treatment.

You can combine Profhilo® with other treatments, however it’s recommended to wait at least two weeks following Botox.

Chemical peels, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and microdermabrasion are also not recommended two weeks pre or post Profhilo® treatment.
